    This was the best place we stayed in Cuba. The service was excellent and attentive; the buffet was the same as the other hotels but probably of slightly better quality. Rooms are excellent with hug beds. Looks like the cleaners have a habit of indulging in room art.

    Reception staff and the overall service is excellent. The free internet (although quite slow connection) Rooms are very clean and comfortable and cleaned daily. The pool is very large, with plenty of sun loungers around, and there were always plenty free during our stay, food.(yum) Plenty of choice even for the picky eater, there was always plenty of option and diversity

    All the Staff is so friendly .The food was excellent. The buffet had all you could want from seafood to steak and the table wines. The restaurants were all good the service in the lobby was great; always someone asking to top up drinks, however the service at breakfast was of a much lower standard.

    The hotel needs fully refurbish it, it will be amazing again. Right now, you have to overlook a few warts — old carpet, sewage gas (smell!) leaking into the units, completely shot mattresses, etc.

    Overpriced,The location is great for Vedado, but I would have preferred to be in the Old Havana part of town — it’s a 45 minute walk or 3-5 CUC cab ride to get back and forth.

    Front desk. Incredibly slow check in and additional service. We kept getting locked out of our rooms (one large suite with bedrooms on either side of the living room) because the key cards kept canceling out for some unexplainable reason. And once we got into our rooms, we had the same card-cancellation problem with a dedicated card reader that controlled the electricity. Lots of trips down to the front desk to explain the latest problem to (mostly) disinterested front desk staff.

    Lovely big clean bathroom with the biggest fluffy towels ive used in a hotel before going down for dinner, the food is good and plenty of choice in the buffet. Our room was a good size and faced the sea and pool a lovely view. The hotel is a historic landmark and the hall of fame is nice to have a drink in and look at the pictures of people who have stayed there. Breakfast is good and a good choice of cereal,eggs,bacon and nice breads.

    The only downside of our stay was the attitude of the staff, who were unhelpful throughout. This was particularly the case on reception. One warning to anyone planning to stay at the Nacional is that the hotel tried may try and charge you for items in the mini-bar even though you haven’t used them.

    We had to wait over an hour to check in despite there being only 6 people before us in the queue. The staff do not try to be efficient and do not apologise for the shocking service. The service in Cuba is slower than that UK but this was taking it to an extreme.

    Our carpet extremely dirty with what looked like blobs of blood on the carpet (see photo). The decor was tired however it was to be expected since it hadn’t been renovated since 1992.

    If the hotel wasn’t listed as 5 star then my expectations wouldn’t have been so high. I think this hotel is a 3 star at the most. If this hotel didn’t have the history and romance associated with it then it would have closed a long time ago.

    Havana is an amazing place with lots to do and see just don’t stay at the Hotel Nationale, pay it a day visit instead!

    The main reception areas were very historic and grand, and the facilities were good. The receptionist wasn’t very welcoming. The outside bar and seating was lovely, very nice setting.pool area was ok, not very many sunbeds but nicely laid out. The second pool was not so well maintained and the surrounding area was bare. The bedroom was very old and tired, furniture repaired with pieces of plywood and the bathroom facilities did not work very well.

    The bed was very soft and the bed cover had big holes in it.The carpet was not very clean.At £125 a night, we expected better. Soundproofing between rooms seemed quite good.Breakfast was ok, not great. Fresh orange juice good, omelettes were good. Boiled eggs weren’t cooked and the pastries were dry.
